You Never Know Which Key Opens the Wardrobe to Narnia
Literacy Success Story Follow Up After Giovanni’s success story during a previous literacy lesson (see blog "Literacy Success Stroy), I continued to use the same strategy. I had him join a group, had him process the way he needed to- even talking to himself, but he was physically close enough to listen, and he even read parts out loud fluently when I pointed to the words for him.
What a blast!! MM lesson for a vocabulary review (inspired by New Trails Kinetic Dictionary Lesson)Students became ‘rock trolls’ ( from the movie ‘Frozen’), having words from a vocabulary word family on their back. The student with the vocabulary word had to find his/her ‘family’ to cross an imaginary river to get to bounce on the trampoline while explaining the vocab word to the team.
Ideal environment to read. It seems MM is becoming more and more natural and easier to implement without too much thinking but rather from the heart with science behind it. Whenever possible we are now outdoors and moving. Colleagues have noticed the difference in behavior and attitude in my students and are starting to copy and getting “infected with the passion”.
Natural environment can help 21st Century presentation skills. So many educators complain about their students not being able to project and speak up. This exercise using natural environment worked wonders without the teacher having to nag or correct- natur did all the work.
All students were highly engaged when we did a Movement Method body system treasure hunt. (Lesson plans available on this page). Not only did the lesson cover the academics all students needed, but they had to collaborate and listen to each other to succeed.
Turning a no situation into a yes.
