Autism Subtypes?

7 years 4 months ago #77 by jenny
Autism Subtypes? was created by jenny
A recent Harvard study has suggested that kids with autism fall into three distinct subtypes each of which is associate with certain other disagnoses:

1. Those in group one also suffer from epilepsy or seizures
2. Those in group two also suffer from G1 disorders or hearing problems
3. Those in group three also suffer from ADHD or obsessive compulsive disorder

What thoughts?

First thought is 'what's G1?'! - sorry to be ignorant!!
Secondly, what would be the reason for making the sub-divisions?
I think its necessary to have the full picture, and I guess the autism might not be the main factor for some individuals - so that would impact on provision, funding etc. But really, I like to think of the whole person. With whatever they have! Does that make sense??

Sorry that was a type. G1 should be GI (gut and intestinal disorders). And yes that totally makes sense. They don't go into why the distinction although as you say I strongly suspect it is funding related.
