Now we really learn how to deliver the national curriculum in a way that is not only kinetic but also therapeutic. Looking into using our existing lesson plans from pre-K to pre-college and also how to write your own lesson plans that are specific to the child in front of you. 

In this 5 day course you will not only hone your observation skills and learn how to create kinetic learning activities that are specific to a child’s interest and passions but you will also begin to develop a Movement Method IEP for one of more kids that you are working with by, under supervision, creating short and long term goals for them as well as drop it, do it, confirm it strategies to achieve these goals. Movement Method 3 involves the opportunity to work directly with children on the autism spectrum under the supervision of a Movement Method expert.

Workshop Schedule

This workshop is a mixture of theory, exercises and direct experience working with children. You will start at 9am and finish no later than 3pm on the first day and after that times will be confirmed on a day by day basis. A light lunch will be provided. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know well in advance so we can cater to your needs.

Day 1: Activity Planning

On day one you will be given information about the kids you will be working with over the next two days including their likes, dislikes, goals and current status. You will then, under supervision from a Movement Method expert, create games and activities for each of your assigned kids based around their interests. Day one will also include a tour of the kids zone and a shadowing tutorial.

Day 2: Playdates

You will either participate in one or two playdates and at at least one of these playdates you will be working directly with a child on the autism spectrum. You will be responsible for setting up the game for this child, actively shadowing the child during the playdate and making detailed notes of your observations afterwards which will be used as part of an interactive discussion on day 4.

Day 3: Playdates

Day 4: Boundaries

Day 4 will begin with an interactive discussion about your experiences over the past two days. You will share your observations on what worked and what didn’t and help us come up with next steps. You will also be introduced to our kid’s logs and will be expected to fill them out for the kids that you worked with. In the afternoon we will move on to discussing how and when to create physical and social boundaries for a child with autism and strategies to ease the transition when these boundaries are shifted.

Day 5: Goals and IEP’s

Day 5 will begin with a video going over the basics of how to set up an environment that is conducive to learning. You will then learn how to create your Movement Method IEP containing both short and long term goals for one or more children that you work with. You will get a chance to discuss with the group these goals and brainstorm ideas on how to achieve them.
